ARE YOU AT RISKS?

By now, most of us should understand that COVID-19 is an airborne virus transmitted via droplets produced by an infected person when he/she sneezes and coughs (Oh no! that’s why all of us have to wear a mask when we are outside). Airborne virus can remain suspended in the air for several hours or if it landed on surfaces, the virus can survived for as long as 24 hours up to 3 days on stainless steel or plastics according to researches and studies.

As the COVID19 cases continue to increase WORLDWIDE, it is time to review our prevention methods other than washing hand, wearing masks and social distancing. Read on for more information!

Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization…

What? Perhaps you have not notice there are differences between cleaning, disinfection and sterilization.

Cleaning is a process to remove and maintain an area visually free from dirt, debris, food, faeces or any foreign objects/materials (e.g. soil, organic materials and etc). Cleaning reduces amount of organic matter that contributes to the proliferation of bacteria and viruses. The process of cleaning includes scrubbing the surfaces/soiled area with fluids and detergent. If you are lucky enough, most likely you employ a maid that is continuously “wiping” (not scrubbing) the surfaces, lifts buttons, tables with a contaminated piece of cloth all day long.

Disinfection is the process or act of destroying pathogenic microorganisms and removes most organisms present on surfaces with the use of chemicals/disinfectants (e.g. Chlorine or alcohol based chemical and etc). Disinfectants work by destroying the cell wall of microbes or interfering with the metabolism. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning. Question is how safe is this process? Many people choose forging machine to do disinfection in offices and public areas. This exposes us to high concentration of chemicals which claimed to be safe?? Then why all this disinfection workers are wearing hazmat suits?

Sterilization is a term referring to any process that eliminates or kills all forms of viruses, bacteria, fungi and spore forms. Sterilization process renders all virus, bacteria harmless to human being from the air and every surface (including surfaces you cannot reach). This process can be automatic, continuously and harmless to human body with proper technologies and correct application. So which will you choose?
